SCO Summit Kicks Off in Islamabad with Focus on Economic Growth and Regional Ties

ISLAMABAD, October 15,2024: Pakistan is set to host the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Council of Heads of Government meeting in Islamabad.

The high-level summit will be chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who will assume the chairmanship of the council for the next year, taking over from India after 17 months.

The event will bring together prime ministers and senior officials from the SCO member states, including Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, as well as the First Vice President of Iran. Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and Chinese Premier Li Qiang will also represent their respective countries at the gathering.

In addition, the Prime Minister of Mongolia, as an observer state, and the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and the Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan, as special guests, will participate in the discussions.

The meeting will focus on key areas of cooperation, including economic growth, trade, environmental challenges, and strengthening socio-cultural ties among SCO members.
