Islamabad: Chairperson of the Senate Standing Committee on Federal Education and Professional Training, Senator Bushra Anjum Butt, held a special meeting today with representatives of students affected by the Higher Education Commission’s (HEC) degree attestation delays.
The student delegation, comprising Mr. Saad Mudassir, Mr. Ijaz Hussain, and Mr. Mehar Iqbal, and others met with Senator Butt at her office to discuss the ongoing challenges in the attestation process, which has impacted over 54,000 graduates across the country of South Asia University , Prestin Institute of Management Science and Technology Karachi , Newport University Karachi and A-Khair University AJK
Senator Butt briefed the delegation on the proceedings of an earlier committee meeting held the same day, in which the HEC informed the committee that universities were not submitting complete student records, resulting in attestation delays. The committee instructed the HEC to again approach the universities and obtain the required documentation.
Speaking to the media following the meeting, Senator Butt announced a major relief step: the establishment of special help desks at HEC Islamabad and all regional offices to support affected students. She also shared that discussions are underway to introduce a more relaxed list of required documents to streamline the process.
Looking ahead, Senator Butt revealed that a high-level meeting will be held soon, bringing together the Federal Education Minister, Secretary Education, Chairman HEC, and representatives of the affected students to further address the crisis.
This issue affects 54,000 students various above mentioned Universities , and I have taken it up as a personal mission,” she stated. “It’s been a year since I started working on this, and I assure the students that positive results are on the horizon.
Senator Butt emphasized the need for a clear and student-friendly policy from the HEC to prevent similar situations in the future. The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks to the Chairperson for her continued commitment and efforts.
