Senator Sherri addresses key note address at SDPI annual conference

SDPI ED Dr Abid says Pakistanis are most resilient nation

Islamabad, 4 October 2024: Senator Sherri Rehman on Monday said flood in 2022 was disastrous and it damaged Pakistan in a way and since then one -third of the population of this country is struggling to recover and rehabilitate damage done by the flood in recent past.

She was addressing SDPI’s annual conference here at Pak- China Centre. Senator Sherri Rehman applauded resilience of the flood-hit people and urged that all those who are assisting the victims of the flood deserve more help for a reasonable rate of recovery.

Senator Sherri referred the challenges that Pakistan is currently facing, in particular, smog hurting Lahore and other areas of Pakistan . She said vehicles in Pakistan in general and in Punjab in particular , are generating climate trouble with rising emission of sulphur.

She said pollution created by the vehicles is making lives of the people of Pakistan miserable. Ms Sherry urged media to highlight pollution as it’s top priority. She said ” Media must wake-up to create awareness among public about damaging the impact of pollution .

She said Agri- tech and food security are top agenda and weather change is making things worse . Senator Sherri said a large size of land of Sindh and Balochistan has dried up and their land is gone .

She said everyone should question to oneself why Pakistan ‘s most fertile land is turning into a dry soil. She said we should find solutions to the issues being faced by Pakistan and which can add to our food insecurity. She deplored that Pakistanis are wasting water and warned of its future implications.

She maintained that water bottled water brands are proven misfit for human consumption, but even then bottles filled with what she called contaminated waters are being served in Pakistan.

SDPI Executive Director , Dr Abid , in his welcome remarks said Pakistanis are resilient and they need to show the world that they are rather real and more resilient as they are deemed by the world .

He thanked the participants for turning in a big number to join SDPI ‘s annual conference. SDPI ‘s 3-day annual conference 2024 began in Islamabad in a big way at Pak- China Centre.
