ISLAMABAD, October 22, 2024: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has hailed the passage of the 26th Constitutional Amendment by parliament, which received a two-thirds majority, as a significant milestone for the economic and political stability of Pakistan.
During a federal cabinet meeting, he expressed optimism that the amendment, which aims to establish constitutional benches, will facilitate prompt and accessible justice for citizens facing delays in legal matters.
Sharif noted that the amendment aligns with the vision outlined in the Charter of Democracy and reflects extensive consultations with various political parties, including opposition groups. He emphasized the collaborative nature of the process, showcasing a commitment to democratic principles.
The Prime Minister also commended the efforts of the Foreign Office, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Ministry of Interior, the armed forces, and law enforcement agencies in successfully hosting the recent SCO heads of government meeting, which he said has improved Pakistan’s international image.
On the economic front, Sharif reported a decline in inflation to 6.9% and a significant reduction in the policy rate, indicating a positive trend for the country’s economy. He expressed confidence that these developments would lead to further improvements in the economic landscape.
