Spy agency officials must operate within constitution : IHC judge rules

Order early recovery of poet Ahmad Farhad

Islamabad: May 29, 2024: A judge of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) has observed that the court does not want to summon spy agency’s officials as everyone in this country loves to the armed forces . However, he added , the institution must make sure that its officials working in any capacity perform within the ambit of the constitution.
“Our concern is upholding of the constitution of Pakistan by every institution including the spy agency of Pakistan”, judge Mohsin Akhtar Kiyani of IHC observed during the hearing of the case of poet Ahmad Farhad who had gone missing on May 16, 2024 in Islamabad. The wife of missing poet had moved IHC for recovery of her spouse .
On the last hearing, the court had summoned sector in charge of the Military Intelligence (MI), sector in charge of Inter Services Intelligence (ISI), director general of Intelligence Bureau (IB), federal Interior secretary and ordered all them to present in the court in person on May 29 (Today). None of the listed top government officials and official of the spy agency were present in the court on Wednesday. Inspector general of Police (IGP) Islamabad informed to the court on the outset of the hearing that the accused –Poet Ahmad Farhad—was in the custody of the Azad Jammu Kashmir (AJK) police as he was wanted to the police there in a case of interfering into the functioning of the state . Ahmad Farhad ,a poet , had got into limelight some two weeks ago for his some poetry which indirectly targeted the establishment. After a few days, he had gone missing from Lai Bhair area of the federal capital in Islamabad. His wife had filed the case with the police in Islamabad and demanded immediate release of Ahmad Farhad.
She also moved IHC and requested for fast recovery of her spouse. After hearing the arguments of IGP Islamabad the court ordered to Imaan Mizari, the counsel for Ahamad Farhad that she would take the case of Ahmad Farhad with the AJK authorities and ensure safe release of the accused Ahmad Farhad.
