Sukkur : Oct ,24 : Caretaker Chief Minister Sindh Justice (R) Maqbool Baqer presided over a meeting in Sukkur to review the development works in Sukkur Division and the steps taken to restore the flood-affected areas. Also reviewed. In the meeting, caretaker provincial interior minister Brigadier Haris Nawaz, caretaker law minister Mohammad Umar Soomro, Ashar Lal, principal secretary Hasan Naqvi, school education secretary Shireen Narejo, health secretary Dr. Mansoor, secretary works Nawaz Soho, commissioner Sukkur division Samiuddin Siddiqui, Deputy Commissioner Sukkur and officials of other relevant departments participated.
On this occasion, the caretaker Chief Minister of Sindh Justice (R) Maqbool Baqir said that Sukkur is the third largest city of Sindh. He said that he was giving three weeks to clean Sukkur city,
He said “if the city is not clean in 3 weeks, no concession will be made”. He said that the functioning of police stations and hospitals is not good and they should also be improved and the conditions of parks in the city should be improved. On this occasion, Commissioner Sukkur gave a detailed briefing to the Chief Minister’s team about flood and rehabilitation and other development works and said that there are 18 taluks and 288 union councils in Sukkur division. Sukkur division consists of 27158 km of land.
According to the latest census, Sukkur Division has 1052475 houses and 6010041 population. The population ratio in Sukkur division is 5.7 per household and overall growth rate is 1.36. There are 5239 primary, 171 middle, 248 elementary, 210 secondary and 85 higher secondary schools in Sukkur division. There are 294 health centers in Sukkur division, 69 in Sukkur, 169 in Khairpur, 56 in Ghotki. After the rains in 2022, floods caused havoc in Sukkur division, during which 775 mm of rain was recorded in Sukkur.
Commissioner Sukkur further informed that new schemes have been established for the Sukkur division in the financial year 2023-24 under the annual development program of the district. In Khairpur, development schemes are ready for which money has also been allocated. 1280 million rupees have been allocated for 51 development schemes of Sukkur Division. 8404.552 rupees were sanctioned for 741 ongoing schemes, 2834 million rupees were allocated while 467.478 were released. Ongoing/new schemes under ADP Provincial Highways for FY 2023-24 There are 217 schemes of highways in Sukkur Division in FY 2023-24. 36604 million rupees were approved for 217 schemes and 13804.87 million rupees were allocated, while 5942.59 million rupees were released. This year, new education schemes for Sukkur Division are also ongoing in provincial ADB. Work on 97/880 schemes/units for Sukkur Division has been allocated Rs. 7309.79 million for educational schemes. have gone # 67/85 schemes for Sukkur buildings and units to be completed this year 6152.998 million rupees were approved for building projects, 1496.199 million rupees were allocated, while 127.889 million rupees were released. For Sukkur division, 24 schemes have been reserved for health buildings, for which 2903.857 million rupees have been approved and 486.02 have been allocated. Schools used for polling stations in general elections are destroyed.
He said that the potential cost of repairing 1299 schools in Sukkur division is 1483.585 million rupees. Secretary GA, S&GAD has been approached for provision of funds for road rehabilitation in Sukkur for 388 schemes to be spent Rs.6271 million. The works department has been informed to release funds for the projects. The work on PHE schemes of drinking water in Sukkur division will be completed this year. 142.83 million rupees have been allocated for 83.328 million rupees have been allocated for 199 schemes of water filtration plants in Sukkur.
