CM Sindh orders third party audit of Sukkur barrage repair work

Sukkur : Oct 25 : Caretaker Chief Minister Sindh Justice (Rtd) Maqbool Baqir visited Sukkur Barrage. The officers of the Irrigation Department gave a detailed briefing to the Chief Minister on the canals coming out of the barrage, the clean-up campaign and the ongoing projects.

He said that the seven rivers coming out from the right and left side of the barrage are playing an important role in greening millions of acres of agricultural land in Sindh and Balochistan.

There are 212 distributors, 64 branches, the command area of Rohri Canal being the largest. After the formation of Pakistan, 12 super floods occurred. Sukkur Barrage has a very important role in the development of the agricultural economy of the province, during the briefing, the Chief Minister also gave necessary instructions to the officers of the “Inhar” department to improve the system.

Later talking to media representatives, Syed Maqbool Baqir said the work under the supervision of the English company on the restoration and improvement of Sukkur barrage is going on rapidly. Caretaker Chief Minister Sindh directed to conduct third party audit of the repair works of Sukkur Barrage and Guddu Barrage. He also instructed the officers of the Anhar department to take measures for survival and later he left for his visit to Khairpur. Strict arrangements were made on the occasion of Sindh Chief Minister’s visit.
