‘Negotiated to end Faizabad sit in on government ‘s instruction’ : says ex-spy chief

Islamabad : Jan 4 : Former spy chief , general (R) Faiz Hameed , finally responded to Faizabad sit in commission . He on Thursday submitted a written reply to the commission in estimating Faizabad sit in and its all characters.

In his reply , ex spy chief, general (R) Faiz Hameed, has claimed that he negotiated with the organisers of Faizabad sit in on the request of then government of Pakistan Mualim League Nawaz (PMLN). Tehreek e Labaik of Khadam Rizvi organised sit in at Faizabad inter junction in 2017. This sit in of the far right religious group continued for 21 days but it paralysed the entire country . The sit in challenged the writ of the government of the day and exposed weaknesses in Pakistan’s adminstrative system . Tehreek e Labaik had held sit in at Faizabad interchange more than once .

In 2017 Faizabad sit in got extraordinary significance as it had brought the PMLN government to a standstill . It severally damaged Pakistan ‘s credibility . Finally , the sit in ended at a negotiated note . Ex spy chief general (R) who was top boss of the spy agency held talks with Tehreek e Labaik team along with the government team. These negotiations remained fruitful and Tehreek e Labaik closed down its sit in but later it landed in the court which after a gap of six years fixed it for hearing some months ago.

After initial hearing the apex court appointed a 3-member commission to identify its all characters and suggest actions against its responsible. The commission will submit its report on January 22,2024. The response of ex spy chief general Faiz Hameed will be of decisive importance . It can put the controversy of Faizabad sit in to an end once for all.
