Lahore : The Punjab government has formed a four-member committee to review progress on Mianwali medical college project.
An official order made by the Punjab Chief minister’s Office, Lahore , dated July 8, 2026 , and a copy made available to NEWSMAN, said the committee to be headed by the Commissioner Sargodha Division , has been directed by the Punjab government to make sure that the entire infrastructure needed for making the Mianwali medical college functional for having its first batch of students in upcoming Spring session 2026 should be completed within 30 days.
Other members of the committee including Secretary Public Health Punjab, Deputy Commissioner , Mianwali, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Health Department , Mianwali. The Commissioner Sargodha Division has been authorized to include any person in the committee whom he deems suitable to push forward the project and ensure its timely completion.
The terms of reference of the committee include review the status of DHQ Mianwali Medical College and ensure undertaking of all necessary steps by the respective Health Departments for immediate up-gradation of territory level/ teaching hospital in its current premises and also recommend any future plans, if any, along with infrastructure and financial requirement , . Workout the plans for commencement of Mianwali medical college for upcoming Fall session in 2026, to be housed in the premises available due to relocation of the DHQ Mianwali along with future recommendations, if any.
The Punjab government also ordered the committee to take all necessary actions to complete the project in time.
Chief minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, had announced to establish Mianwali medical college during her visit to Mianwali some four to five months ago. The project of Mianwali medical college was conceived by the Punjab government to form a medical college in public sector in Mianwali to help the students of the district get medical education in their own district capital and on completion of their studies serve the people of Mianwali and surrounding areas. The Chief Minister Punjab ‘s announcement of setting- up a public sector medical college in Mianwali while addressing a public gathering in Mianwali city was widely appreciated by the crowed. A big crowd had gathered to welcome Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, during her visit to Mianwali.
Since Mianwali is hometown of Pakistan Tehreek- e- Insaf (PTI) and former prime minister , Imran Khan, and an announcement of setting up of a medical college in Mianwali by Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, could bring public appreciation for the Pakistan Muslim League (PMLN) .
The people of Mianwali are happy over having a public sector medical college in their district city. They, however, are protesting over shifting of DHQ , Mianwali to new premises as in their view the new space is not enough to cater to the requirements of a DHQ, Hospital. The protestors do want a state-of-the-art medical college building for Mianwali Medical college, but do not want relocation of DHQ Hospital to new space.
