PMLN rushes to make coalition govt in centre

Sharifs sprang up to woo independents

Lahore : February 9,2024: As results of February 9 elections are still pouring in , Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) has sprung -up to muster support of independents and like-minded parties to form a coalition government in the centre. PMLN has emerged as the second largest party in these elections . Independents, mostly backed by Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI), have managed to win 100 off 265 seats of the national assembly in Thursday’s electiins .

Till filing of these reports by 12.15 AM on Saturday, PMLN had won 70 seats of the national assembly . Pakistan People Party (PPP) has bagged 53 seats of the national assembly. Mutiheda Quami Movement (MQM) Pakistan also made a good comeback in these elections and won 15 seats of the national assembly .

In a house of 266, a party or group of parties requires 134 seats of the national assembly to form a government in the centre. Since PMLN has only 70 seats and it may win another around 10 to 12 seats from remaining results , it would need support of small parties like MQM, PML and JUI as well as of some independents to get a required gold number of 172 seats (Inclusive of reserved seats) to have a simple majority .

PMLN supremo , Nawaz Sharif made a victory speech on Friday and invited other political parties to sit with him to form a strategy to steer Pakistan out of the current political and economic crisis.
