LAHORE: Lynching of a deranged man identified as Mushtaq has come down to dent Pakistan’s credibility seriously. The incident occured on Saturday in Mian Channun , a small city of Punjab province some 88 km from Lahore.
An unruly mob had tortured the man to death on accusation of blasphemy.
The mob snatched the victim from the police and dragged him outside the police station to torture him to death accusing him of burning sacred pages. The victim, according to some media reports, had denied of any thing which fall under blasphemy but the angry mob did not spare him and started to torture him which ended up at his death on the spot
Mian Channun incident is replica of Sialkot incident in which a Sri Lankan man who was serving as a manager was lynched by a furious crowed. The incident questioned the rule of law in Pakistan. The government did make every possible effort to dispell the impression that extremists were over and above the law and took various administrative measures to get the accused punished but unfortunately as it happens in almost every case the course of legal formalities and inordinate delay in dispensation of justice foiled these efforts. After a few month an identical case has occured in Mian Channun . Again the mob used blasphemy as a base to kill mentally deranged man. Had the court punished the accused in Sialkot lynching case it would have served as a deterrent to discourage religious fanatics from taking life of another man for accusation of blasphemy .
Like the whole nation, prime minister , Imran Khan , also stood shocked over Mian Channun lynching incident. He tweeted on Sunday vowing not to spare anyone involved in the crime . He noted that no one will go Scot free for taking law in hand under blasphemy allegations .
Special assistant to prime minister, Tahir Ashrafi , told the media person’s that 62 individuals have been arrested so for and the law will take its course for bring all accused to the justice.
Former prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz , Shahid Khaqan Abbasi , and Pakistan People Party (PPP) chairman , Balawal Bhutto, condemned Mian Channun incident and demanded major punishment to all its responsible .
