ISLAMABAD : July 20,2023: Opposition leader , Raja Riaz, has said the national assembly will stand dissolved on August 8, four days prior to completion of its constitutional term.
Raja Riaz added that he will be meeting to prime minister , Shahbaz Sharif , on August 1 to discuss and finalize the name for the caretaker prime minister.
The opposition leader maintained that he will give his own names when meets Mr Shahbaz Sharif for appointment of a caretaker prime minister.
Raja Riaz made this much -awaited disclosure regarding dissolution of the national assembly in his media statement on Friday.
Raja Riaz ,being an opposition leader in the national assembly , holds the key to finalize the name in consultation with the prime minister for appointment of a caretaker prime minister .
The constitution authorizes the leader of the house and leader of the opposition in the national assembly to appoint the caretaker prime minister for holding fair and transparent elections in the country .
In the past , there had been deadlock between the prime minister and the opposition leader on this key appointment , but since Raja Riaz is a weak man he may not assert his position to force the prime minister to pick his nominee for the office of the caretaker prime minister and hence there is least chance of deadlock on the issue this time.
Raja Raiz ‘s statement has cleared the dust at least on dissolution of the national assembly. After dissolution of the national assembly ahead of its natural term of five years which completes on August 12 , the general elections will be held in the country within 90 days.
