SAARC chamber moves in to defuse tension between Pakistan, India

ISLAMABAD :  SAARC chamber of Commerce and Industry will play a role in defusing the rising tension  between two arch rivals –Pakistan and India—and bring them closer to utilize their potential to address key issues confronting the region like socio-economic development.

SAARC chamber of Commerce and Industry ‘s newly elected president ,Iftikhar Ali Malik, announced to utilize his office for reduction in tension between Islamabad and New Delhi while addressing a crowed gathering of Pakistani business community in the federal capital . The Federation of Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) president Mian Anjum Nisar, SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry vice president Senator Haji Ghulam Ali, SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry  former vice president Mian Akram Farid, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry  (ICCI) president Mohammad Ahmed,  Islam Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry president, Samina Fazal, Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) president  Zahid Khan, ICCI former president Atif Ikram Shaikh, Islamabad Chamber of Small Traders secretary general  Sajjad  were among the key business leader who spoke on the occasion.

In his address, Iftikahar Ali Malik said SAARC region enjoys a unique status in many ways. Its all eight members were blessed with huge potential of natural resources like water, agri produces and natural resources . “Our goad is to bring SAARC countries closer and help each other utilize their natural potential resources in the best possible manner for betterment of the people of the region”, Malik said.

He told the gathering that Foreign minister, Shah Mahmood Qureshi , has already contacted him on phone to use the platform of SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry for defusing tension between India and Pakistan. He told the galaxy of businessmen that only peace could help the region address the key issues like poverty and unemployment. Malik also hoped to establish a railways link between SAARC counties to facilitate trade and businesses between the member coun tries. He urged upon the fellow businessmen to bring young entrepreneurs on the forefront to meet fast growing challenges to their businesses.  He also inspired women entrepreneurs who were present at the gathering in a large number and asked them to play a vibrant role to play their role in growth of businesses.

FPCCI president Mian Anjum Nisar expressed  confidence in Iftikhar Ali Malik’s leadership and hoped he will use SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s office to add substantially in business growth among all regional countries. He lend a helping hand to Iftikhar Ali Malik and expressed hope that SAARCH Chamber of Commerce and Industry and FPCCI will go hand- in- hand to ensure positive growth in businesses besides adding substantially to the industrial sector of the member countries.

Senator Haji Ghulam Ali welcomed Iftikhar Ali Malik as SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry president and ensured on behalf of fellow businessmen that they will be available for any support for making his new assignment a big success.

SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry former president Mian Akram Farid also expressed  full confidence in Iftikhar Ali Malik leadership and hoped that SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry will become more vibrant entity during his two-year tenure.

Islamabad Women Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Samina Fazal said Iftikhar Ali Malik’ was a prominent name in Pakistani businesses and we all support his elevation to the office of the SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry president. He wanted more coordinated efforts to help women come forward and do businesses for the progress and prosperity of Pakistan in more cordial environment.
