LHC moved to stop release of Joyland film

ISLAMABAD : Nov 20,2022: Joyland, Pakistan’s most controversial film, has invited another trouble for its producer as a petition has landed in Lahore High Court (LHC) for trashing of its license and censorship certificate issued by the Central Board of Film Censors (CFBC) for its release in whole of Pakistan .

The petitioner claimed in his petition that Joyland film was basically a well thought scheme to distort facts of Pakistani society and present its untrue picture to the viewers.

The petitioner has made Sarmad Sultan Khosat a party to the case and pleaded to the court to cancel the license of the film and censorship certificate issued by the CFBC to allow release of the Joy Land film for having the most objectionable material.

The petitioner further said CBFC has screened the film without taking into account the impact of its objectionable material.

Joyland film has emerged as the most controversial film of Pakistan for allegedly having material which allegedly negates Pakistan’s moral and social values and can promote homosexuality in the country.

The petitioner has moved LHC a week after CFBC had cleared Joyland film and issued it the certificate for its release in entire Pakistan.

CFBC chairnan , Tahir Hassan, in a statement , has said that an 8- member committee had viewed Joyland film and allowed its release in entire Pakistan after deleting some of its parts.

The new petition has created a new challenge for the film producer and made chances of early release of Joyland film in cinema houses bleak.

After landing of a new petition in LHC, the CFBC has served notice on Sarmad Sultan Khosat that his film in question can not be released in Punjab till final order of the LHC.
