At long last, Syed Asim Munir ( Sword of Honor) from the 17th OTS course stands recommended as COAS for the very first time on merit and for the very 1st time in line with the military traditions of seniority.
Commissioned in the 23rd FF Regiment and as such, an infantryman by profession . He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General in September 2018 and was subsequently appointed as DG ISI before serving as Director General of Military Intelligence. Recipient of Hilal-i-Imtiaz , he served as FCNA commander .In June 2019, Munir was replaced by Lt. Gen. Faiz Hameed, as the new DG ISI. Munir was transferred and appointed as Corps Commander of XXX Corps in Gujranwala.
One can only wish the civilian political leadership spare the new proposed COAS and does not politicise him like his predecessors as one have bitter memories of fine officers such as Honourable late Asif Nawaz Junjeo and Honourable Jehangir Karamat. I wish the new COAS every success in his professional endeavours and hope he will strictly adhere to the professional domain of the armed forces without being tempted to stray into the thankless political domain that is not only counter – productive to the armed forces professionally, but is detrimental to its image in the long run. Long Live Pakistan, Its Resilient Nation And Its Valiant Armed Forces. 🇵🇰
