High voltage drama ends up at opposition’s defeat in Punjab as Elahi gets vote of confidence in mid night operation

PMLN announces to challenge vote of confidence in court . Fawad Chaudhary hints at dissolution of KPK, Punjab assemblies today.

LAHORE: Jan 12,2023; After mid -night , chief minister Punjab, Chaudhary Pervez Elahi , managed to somehow get magic number of 186 in a vote of confidence amidst opposition boycot of the provincial assembly proceedings.

The Punjab assembly session which started at around 5 PM on Wednesday remained as a high voltage drama till mid night whose characters were the members of treasury and opposition. The stormy session was deferred time and again to wait for beginning of Thursday to dodge technical and constitutional requirements before start of process for vote of confidence . With ticking of clock to over 12 at night and start of a new day the secretary Punjab assembly issued a new agenda of the session and announced to start process of vote of confidence for the chief minister Chaudhary Pervez Elahi. The doors of the Punjab assembly were locked and bells were range for 5 minutes. Earlier , both treasury benches and opposition kept on shouting at each other . For quite some times , opposition members staged protest in front of the speaker’s dias . At one stage , treasury members also confronted opposition members in a bid to stop them from running over to the speaker and interrupt process of the vote of confidence .

Later, the opposition boycotted the process of vote of confidence calling it as unconstitutional and unlawful. Later , Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) leaders , Rana Sanaullah, Atta Tarar and Ahmad Khan talked to the reporters outside the Punjab assembly building at around 1.15 AM. They announced to challenge the vote of confidence in the Lahore High Court (LHC) today.

After getting the vote of confidence , Chaudhary Pervez Elahi , in his short address to the assembly members thanked his party, PTI chairman, Imran Khan, and PTI members who voted for him to show confidence in him as chief minister of the province .

Later , PTI leader ,Fawad Hussain Chaudhary, told to the reporters outside the Punjab assembly building that the provincial assemblies of KPK and Punjab would be dissolved today (Thursday) if there were no legal and constitutional bar on it.
