ISLAMABAD : Oct ,5 : Pakistan’s economic meltdown is going to bite every Pakistani harder as there will be no gas available for the domestic sector in the peak months of coming winter .
Pakistan is facing a serious economic crisis and it has no dollars to buy liquified natural gas (LNG) for winter. The hope of good days with the change of regime appears like a dream.
The Energy ministry came with a open secret on Thursday that it may not have forex exchange to buy LNG to provide gas to the domestic sector in peak winter months of January and February. Pakistan ‘s domestic sector requires more gas in peak winter months –January and February– when temperature drops below zero degree in its many parts .
In the past government used to divert gas from industrial sector to domestic sector to meet its demand in the winter season. But this winter it will neither have gas for industrial not for domestic sector . The Energy ministry has made it clear to the people that this time they will not get gas in peak winter season. The Energy ministry also noted that the domestic sector will get gas twice a day for making meal in December and the possibility to get gas in January and February next year will depend on release of the second tranche of $ 850 million by the International Monetary Fund (IMF). IMF had released a $ 1.2 billion last year as a part of its special lending programme. Now Pakistan is eager to get the second tranche from the fund to meet financial cost for LNG import.
