ISLAMABAD: The opposition parties Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) seems disintegrating much before its logical end.
The opposition had formed PDM some two months ago and it was supposed to remain intact till dismantling of Imran-led government of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), but now only after two months or so it seems disintegrating much before getting its goal of “ Get the Imran government dismantled and have fresh general elections in the country”
PDM has basically burdened under heavy narrative of PMLN supremo, Nawaz Sharif.
His speech focusing on targeting the military leadership and naming top generals in the public rallies set a ground for early disintegration of PDM.
PPP was the first party of PDM which sharply reacted to unexpected and venomous speech of Nawaz Sharif delivered to first public rally in Gujranwala on October 16, 2020.
PPP leadership was so disturbed over Nawaz Shari’s tirade that it reacted to PMLN leadership’s naming of top generals in public rally. Its chairman, Bilawal Bhutto, raised the issue with PMLN leadership which was sitting at the stage in Gujranwala rally soon after Nawaz Sharif’s speech to convey his displeasure..
Bilawal Bhutto had reached to a conclusion that PMLN supremo had hijacked PDM forum for attacking the armed forces to push forward his agenda and his party would have to share its outcome though he and his party did not expect such a development at this level when there was no obvious indication of early dismissal of Imran’s government.
Bilawal Bhutto made it clear to PDM parties that his party will not allow Nawaz Sharif to continue targeting the armed forces for his personal gratification or take his personal fight against the institutions at Karachi rally. PDM had held Karachi rally on October 18, 2020.
Sources told NEWSMAN some other parties of PDM also expressed the similar views on Nawaz Sharif’s address to PDM rally and supported PPP leadership for blocking any such speeches at Karachi rally. Finally PPP and like-minded parties of PDM prevailed and subsequently Nawaz Sharif was barred from addressing the Karachi rally.
The sources said Maulana Fazalur Rehman of Jamiat Ullama Islam (JUI) F, is next who like Bilawal Bhutto has serious reservations over Nawaz Sharif’s narrative of targeting the armed forces for not aligning with him to cover- up his ill-gotton money.
Maulana who had taken very hard position on some issues like alleged rigging in 2018 general elections and meddling of the Establishment in the national politics, but he does not seem convinced to support Nawaz Sharif’s narrative now.
Sources said like Bilawal, Maulana Fazalur Rehaman is also going to part it ways with PDM very soon.
“I do have inside information that Maulana Fazalur Rehman was not ready to support Nawaz Sharif’s narrative aimed at weakening the armed forces of Pakistan and provide much desired opportunity to anti-Pakistan forces to expose its national security”, said a key leader of PDM requesting anonymity.
PPP and JUI F are two key components of PDM and their party ways from it will leave PDM in total disarray, besides leaving a big question mark on PMLN and Nawaz Sharif’s future politics.
