PM Honours Health Workers as Heroes in Battle Against Polio

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed the government’s strong commitment to completely eradicate the polio virus from Pakistan and ensure its permanent elimination.

Speaking at an event organized to observe World Polio Day and Inauguration of the National Polio Campaign in Islamabad, he highlighted the importance of collective efforts in combating this issue.

The Prime Minister paid tribute to health workers, acknowledging their bravery and dedication, calling them the heroes of Pakistan whose contributions will always be remembered.

He also expressed gratitude to international partners for their support in the fight against polio, specifically thanking Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman for the substantial financial assistance provided to help eliminate the virus.

During the event, the Prime Minister launched a nationwide anti-polio campaign set to begin on the 28th of this month, personally administering polio drops to children under five.

Malik Mukhtar Ahmad Bharath, the Coordinator on Health, noted the relentless efforts being made to achieve polio eradication and dedicated the day to honor health workers for their vital role in this battle.

Focus Person on Polio Eradication, Ayesha Raza Farooq, announced that 45 million children would be vaccinated during the upcoming campaign, with 400,000 health workers conducting door-to-door visits to administer the vaccine.
