A high-level meeting of the Focal Group, established by the Prime Minister to monitor the progress of Industrial Zones in Pakistan, was chaired by Federal Minister for Board of Investment, Privatization, and Communications, Abdul Aleem Khan.
During the meeting, the group reviewed developments in Free Economic Zones across the country and addressed various challenges and proposals aimed at resolving these issues.
Minister Abdul Aleem Khan stressed the importance of providing special incentives for these Special Economic Zones. He highlighted the need to designate the Karachi Industrial Park as a model and emphasized the necessity of finalizing several steps, including handing over one Special Economic Zone to China on a trial basis, as per the Prime Minister’s request.
Khan noted that while Industrial Zones offer significant opportunities for promoting industries in Pakistan, they have faced considerable neglect over the years, leading to various challenges that require immediate attention.
He directed that special incentives and facilities be ensured for the industrial zones and approved the preparation of final recommendations by the Focal Group to expedite the resolution of outstanding issues.
Additionally, he stated that the establishment of new industries in the country depends on offering special privileges within these industrial zones, moving away from outdated practices.
The meeting was attended by Federal Secretaries for Energy, Industry, and Investment, along with other senior officials who provided updates on the status of the industrial zones.
It was concluded that the full agenda would be discussed and finalized in the next meeting of the Focal Group, where critical decisions will be made to ensure the swift development of all Industrial Zones.
