Peshawar – A major scandal has emerged involving the alleged disappearance of expensive surveillance cameras from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s most sensitive intelligence agency the Special Branch sparking serious concern at the highest levels of the department.
According to well placed sources, two officials from the technical staff have been taken into custody following the registration of a formal case in connection with the incident.
Sources revealed that the high security office, from where the cameras reportedly went missing, is responsible for storing top secret reports, intelligence inputs, and strategic provincial data.The moment the issue came to light, a senior officer took swift notice and ordered an internal inquiry into the matter.
Initial investigations revealed that one of the individual holds the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and was posted in the technical wing of the Special Branch. During questioning, all staff members claimed ignorance about the missing equipment, which further intensified suspicions.
Authorities suspect that the case may involve more than simple theft and could potentially be part of a larger conspiracy aimed at accessing classified intelligence information.
Credible sources state that after a preliminary inquiry, a confidential internal report was compiled, based on which two technical staff members were detained.The scandal has cast serious doubts on the robustness of the Special Branch’s internal security systems and data protection protocols.
The Daily Newsman made several attempts to contact senior Authority of the Special Branch for their comments of events regarding this sensitive issue. However, all efforts were met with silence, and officials appeared to deliberately avoid comments.
The investigation is ongoing, and both provincial intelligence authorities and federal oversight bodies are reportedly treating the matter with the utmost seriousness.
