GB helicopter crashes in Chilas due to technical fault :ISPR

Rawalpindi : A MI-17 helicopter of the Gilgit-=Baltistan government has crashed in Chilas on September 1, 2025.

Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) issued a statement confirming the crash of MI-17 helicopter .

It said “On 1 Sep 25, at around 1000 hours, an MI-17 helicopter crash landed near Hudor village, approximately 12 kilometres away from Thakdas Cantonment” . “. According to ISPR , the helicopter was on routine training flying when it developed a technical fault and crashed.”

It added that all crew members on board were martyred as a result of the crash.

The crew members were identified as Major Atif, who was the pilot in command, Major Faisal, the co-pilot, flight engineer Naib Subedar Maqbool, and crew chiefs Havaldar Jahangir and Naik Amir.

SSP Chilas , Abdul Hameed confirmed the crash and said five persons including 2 pilots and 3 crew members of the helicopter also died in the crash of the helicopter.

The Gilgit -Baltistan government has imposed emergency in Chllas Hospital and called in its staff for emergency duty.
