Gilani vs Sinjrani: Will minority shine in Senate contest?

ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani had won the senate election when the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf ( PTI) was not expecting defeat to its candidate ( Abdul Hafeez Shaikh). His win was duly celeberated by Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) and it did deserved for it. But now the final contest between Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani and Sadiq Sinjrani may not repeat the same as entire government machinery is in action to muster required support for ensuring win of Sadiq Sinjrani against Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani.

PDM has thin majority by having 51 senators support against 49 of the treasury benches . But winning of Abdul Qadir as independent senator from Balochistan and later joining the treasury benches has a loud and clear message for PDM.

Mr Sinjrani’ s win will have a loud message for political forces of Pakistan that the ultimate power brokers were yet not in a mood to destablise PTI government and Pakisran Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N ) leader , Maryam Nawaz, and others claims that their senators were getting unknown telephone calls would prove correct.

In case the government candidate wins against Mr Gilani it will provide another opportunity to the opposition to open up a new front against the government, blaming it of horsetrading in final contest of the upper house.
