Islamabad, November 25, 2025 : The meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Interior was held on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at Parliament House, Islamabad, under the chairmanship of Senator Shahadat Awan. The meeting was attended by Senators Naseema Ehsan, Saifullah Abro, Umer Farooq, Palwasha Muhammad Zai Khan, Jam Saifullah Khan, Mir Dostain Khan Domki, Dilawar Khan, Muhammad Aslam Abro, and Muhammad Abdul Qadir. Interior Minister Talal Chaudhry was also present.

The Committee received a briefing from the DG FIA (NCCIA) regarding the decisions taken in the previous meeting held on November 6, 2025. It was informed that the individuals involved in committing fraud against Senator Falak Naz Chitrali have been arrested. The DG NCCIA also shared statistics of pending and disposed-of cases before the NCCIA, which raised concern among members who highlighted the unprecedented increase in the number of pending cases.

Senator Palwasha Muhammad Zai Khan pointed out difficulties faced by the public at the hands of NCCIA/FIA, stating that one of their colleagues had recently been asked for money in the name of Mehdi Shah. She further remarked that if the FIA had not demanded ten crore rupees from the wife of a YouTuber’s brother, the scale at which officers are robbing common people would not have been known. Senator Saifullah Abro questioned the integrity of certain FIA officials, noting that an FIA officer had made billions of rupees worth of property in a single year.

Members suggested the formation of a sub-committee for identification of those involved; however, the Chairman stated that there was no need for a sub-committee at this stage and directed that the investigation report against the responsible FIA officers be completed at the earliest and submitted to the Committee.

The Committee was also given a compliance report from the Additional IG Sindh and representatives of IG Balochistan regarding the arrest of the accused involved in the murder of Senator Muhammad Aslam Abro’s brother and nephew. The Additional IG Sindh informed that police teams are currently in Quetta pursuing the suspects; property confiscation proceedings have begun; the identity cards of the accused have been blocked; and the bank accounts of the accused have been frozen. He added that call data records of only two suspects have been traced.

The Chairman directed the DIG Sindh to complete investigation in 20 days and report back to this Committee. Members expressed disappointment over the continued non-attendance of IG Sindh, and the Chairman directed that the IG Sindh must attend the next meeting.
Senators Aslam Abro, Saifullah Abro, and Naseema Ehsan informed the Committee that they have been receiving life threats and have not been provided security. The Chairman directed that until the provincial threat assessment committees take up the matter, IG Islamabad, IG Sindh, and IG Balochistan must provide security to the three senators.

An update was also received on the theft of 2,828 cartons of cigarettes in Swabi, a matter earlier discussed in meetings held on August 19, 2025, and November 6, 2025. The IG Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and DG FIA briefed the Committee that an FIR had been registered and the matter is pending with the FIA. FIA representatives reported that the investigation is ongoing and will be concluded shortly. Members stressed the need for acceleration of the case, provision of clear timelines for prosecution, and answers to the queries raised by senators. The Chairman directed that the inquiry must be completed in the shortest possible time, that all relevant officials attend the next meeting to provide a complete picture of the matter, and noted the reservations of the Committee regarding the absence of the Chairman FBR.

The Committee was further briefed on the blocking of the CNIC and passport of Bayazid Khan Khatori, an Afghan national. The DG Passports informed that the passport has been digitally blocked and that the matter regarding issuance is under probe.

The Committee disposed of the matter with the direction to expedite the process and sought a report from DG I&P and NADRA before the next meeting.
