Islamabad : PDM has issued a new weather alert. It warns of extreme cold spell between Jan 16 to 25 across Pakistan. It predicted fall in temperature in twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad below -5 degree Celsius. The following are full details of the weather alert :
*15-DAY LONG RANGE FORECAST:* ‼️
⦿ Extreme COLD repeating almost after a century. Sub-zero temperatures all the way from the plains of Punjab & KPK to lower Sindh!
16 January to 25 January 2026.
The following RECORD BREAKING TEMPERATURES are expected:
⦾ Rawalpindi/ Islamabad could see snowfall in its urban areas! Temperatures dropping below -5°C, day time maximum of 5-7 C, which could be the first time since 1964!
⦾ Murree -13°C with several periods of heavy snow and wind
⦾ Dir receiving snowfall of 1-2 feet with temperatures dropping to around -12°C to -15°C. Easily shattering its record low of -10.6 recorded in 1989!
⦾ Lahore: Models are showing up to 5 inches of snowfall! Min -2°C to -4 °C! This fluke event will be the first since 1878.
⦾ Quetta could drop to -15°C to -20°C with winds chill below -25°C at times. Coldest since 1970!
⦾ Ziarat could drop below -20°C as lows as -25°C with chills below -30°C
⦾ Karachi Near FREEZING temperatures possible! First time since 1929!
⦾ Hyderabad: dropping 0° to -2 °C
Let’s talk about SNOW and snow in areas you have never heard before:
Snow in Gujranwala, Faisalabad and Sialkot!
Between 17 and 25 January ECM is showing snow at:
⦾ Rawalpindi/ Islamabad: 40-60 mm of rainfall with isolated totals exceeding 80 mm. (Snowfall accumulation of 3 – 6 inches in the metro area, especially increasing toward the NE parts of the twin cities between 24 and 25 Jan. Margallah Hills could receive in excess of 1-1.5 feet of snowfall!
⦾ Chakwal/ Talagang: 25-40 mm with chance of snow of 3-6 inches between 23 25 January.
⦾ Murree could receive 2 – 4 feet of snowfall between 17 and 25 January.
⦾ Abbotabad city and elevations over 4,500 feet: 6-12 inches of snowfall accumulation, starting as early as the 21st of January and total precipitation of 50-75 mm possible!
⦾ Muzaffarabad: SNOW of 1 -2 feet, starting as early as 19 lasting till 25 Jan. Mixed precipitation and icy conditions possible. Precipitation accumulation of 75-100 mm.
⦾ Peshawar is expected to receive 15-25 mm of rainfall with chance of sleet or snow during 23 and 25 of Jan. Minimum temperature dropping to -5 °C
⦾ Chance of snow/sleet in Faisalabad, Lahore, Gujranwala and Sialkot. NE Punjab is expected to receive cold rain turning at times into sleet and snow. 25-50 mm with 65 mm+ possible in isolated areas. Freezing temperatures to follow.
⦾ South Punjab including Multan, upper Sindh, including Sukkur, as far as south as Karachi is expected 5-10 mm of rainfall with some areas receiving up to 25 mm of fast moving showers.
⦾ Most of Balochistan is expected to receive cold rain and snowfall during this time! Quetta could receive about 4-6 inches of snowfall. Between 21 and 23 January, wind gusts of 60-100 km/h are expected across the province! Very cold conditions are going to cause frost bite.
Extreme COLD AND WIND WARNING is in place for Balochistan for 21 to 25 January.
