Pharmacist Pakistan, President Reformers Dr prof. Atif Raza, Dr prof. Syed Nisar hussain shah, Shamshaad Anees hashmi, Rana mateen, Syed Naveed shah and other leaders were present at the press conference.
The leaders said Reformers Pharmacist Pakistan strongly supports notification issued by DRAP, asking practitioners to use generic name of medicines prescribed for the patients.
In this regard, as a result of the complaints received on the Prime Minister’s Complaints Portal, the Prime Minister’s Secretariat has issued a notification to the Ministry of National Health Services Regulation & Coordination and wrote a letter which was forwarded to DRAP, to which DRAP sent a letter on April 16, 2021 to all the provincial health secretaries and provincial health care commission
urging to prescribe the original name or generic name in the use of medicines and to take necessary steps in this regard.
Due to which the burden eventually falls on the patients. The leaders said that the objection being held by various stakeholders in this regard include the inability to know the medicine by the first name or generic name of the staff at the pharmacy and the only solution is the presence of a pharmacist at each pharmacy.
They said It was important to note that due to the lack of qualified pharmacists at the pharmacies and non-availability of medicines as per the prescriptions or side effects thousands of patients die every year.
They added that for the welfare of people and to improve quality of life these facilities are very important to prescribe medicines under generic names and to ensure the presence of a qualified pharmacist at the pharmacy.
For which the consent and implementation of pharmacists, chemists, doctors, all associations and all the provincial health departments is required.
Therefore, Reformers Pharmacist Pakistan is ready to play its role in this regard.
The leaders demanded of the government to legislate and take all the provinces into confidence and make it compulsory to write the prescription under the original name or generic name.
They also demanded that presence of a pharmacist should be made mandatory at every pharmacy.
They urged that the government should take necessary actions to maintain quality and efficacy of generic medicines.
