Forced conversion an important issue in Pakistan: NCM says

ISLAMABAD: The national commission for minorities (NCM) has called forced conversion of religion as an important issue that, it observed, surfaces time and again internationally and noted it will submit suggestions to the committee formed by the prime minister for law making to stop this ugly practice in Pakistan.

NCM meeting held here on Thursday was attended by the representatives of ministry of Religious Affairs, Information and Broadcasting, Statistics Division and representative of the provinces, Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Jummu Kashmir.

NCM chairman ,Cheala Ram , presided over the meeting.

Islamic Idealogy Council chairman, Qibla Ayaz Khan, and Secretary Religious Affairs, Ejaz Jaffar khan, assisted NCM for the meeting.

NCM noted that Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) should write religion instead of using word ‘Other’ in column of religion for a minority voter in electoral list .

It also noted that all minorities were free to exercise religion in Pakistan . It urged upon the religious scholars of all sects that they should preach hormony among people at all levels to create a culture of mutual respect and hormony for all religions .

NCM directed to Statistic Division to present exact number of minorities of Pakistan in next meeting of the commission.

The meeting was informed that NCM was discussing draft of NCMR Act 2020 with all stakeholders.
