Pakistan urges world to support new Afghan govt

ISLAMABAD: Foreign minister, Shah Mahmood Qureshi , on Wednesday called upon the world to support Taliban-led government in Afghanistan to avoid any possible threat of its failure and regrouping of terrorist organisations like Al-Qaeda in that war- torn country.

The Foreign minister was speaking to Cananadian counterpart via skyp to share with him the latest situation in Afghanistan on Wednesday.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi told Canadian counterpart that Pakistan was doing its best to persuade Taliban to have an inclusive government in Afghanistan. He also told Canadian Foreign minister that Pakistan was bearing burden of 4 million Afghan refugees for the last three decades and it would be pleased more than any other country of the world if lasting peace pervails in that country.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi said Pakistan wanted a settled withdrawal from Afghanistan to avoid panic in that war-torn country but its call was ignored.

The foreign minister said the world should financially support Afghan -led government to avoid its failure. He apprehended that failure of Taliban- led government in Afghanistan may have desastrous impact on the region, in particular, and the whole world in general.

The Canadian Foreign minister thanked Pakistan during his talk with Shah Mahmood Qureshi for facilitating withdrawal of Canadian troops and citizens from Afghanistan.

Foreign minister, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, also held a joint press conference with Ireland’s foreign minister in Islamabad.

Ireland Foreign minister is currently visiting Pakistan.

Responding to a volley of questions on the occasion , Shah Mahmood Qureshi said those who are blaming Pakistan for fall of Afghanistan ought understand that 40 to 45 % of Afghanistan was already under Taliban control. He said some countries were playing a role of a spoiler in the case of Afghanistan which was extremely unfortunate.
