Karachi: FIA arrests SEVP NBP in corruption scam

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Banking Circle Karachi on Wednesday arrested Nusrat Vohra, senior executive vice president (SEVP), of the National Bank of Pakistan (SBP) at Karachi airport on his return from Islamabad.
Nusrat Vohra had headed treasury management group (TMG) of NBP for years and he was allegedly involved in a financial scam of over Rs 1.2 billion. Nusrat Vohra was also allegedly imvolved in unlawful trading of shares during his job as SEVP of NBP.

Sources in FIA Banking Circle Karachi told this correspondent requesting not to be named that Nusrat Vohra was also involved in many other financial frauds that caused irriparable loss to NBP.

“We have arrested Nusrat Vohra a senior officer of NBP to imvestigate his role in Rs 1.2 billion fraud in TMG when he was its chief”. The sources said, adding FIA team will also investigate Nusrat Vohra for facilitating Mrs Saddaf , one of his subordinates who was a contractual employee and main character of the TMG scam . The FIA team will also investigate as to how Sadaff’s case was closed when she had accepted her role in Rs 1.2 billion scam in TMG. Mrs Saddaf had got very special favour in the case and left Pakistan for Canada when she was required for investigation in the case.

Another source confided to NEWSMAN that FIA team will inquire Nusrat Vohra about Mrs
Saddaf’s elopement from Pakistan and his role in protecting her in the case..
During Vohra’s tenure, TMG was being run by contractual employees .
The FIA presented the accused before the court soon after his arrest and got his three days physical remand. The accused will be presented before the court on Saturday next. FIA team will also submit a report to the court on outcome of investigations conducted in the case after arrest of the accused.
