ISLAMABAD: Islamabad has geared up to host extraordinary session of foreign ministers of Organisation of Islamic Countries (OIC) . Pakistan recieved foreign ministers of Turkey, Saudi Arabia and many other OIC countries here on Friday. The delegates will participate in OIC session here on December 19, 2021.
The OIC foreign ministers’ extraordinary session is being held in Islamabad to focus on fast deteriorating situation in Afghanistan. Pakistan had requested Saudi Arabia to call an extraordinary session of OIC foreign ministers to discuss alarming situation in war -torn Afghanistan. Saudi Arabia agreed to Pakistan’s request and announced to hold extraordinary session of OIC foreign ministers on Afghanistan. Saudi Arabia had also accepted Pakistan’s request to host 17th extraordinary session of OIC foreign ministers. The OIC session of foreign ministers would take up three -point agenda. It included streamlining of Afghanistan’s banking system, pledgimg of financial assistance for cash -starved Afghanistan and immediate help to Afghan people who have been facing killing winter weather without food, shelter and clothing.
Afghan delegation has also reached Islamabad to present its country’s case before the OIC session on December 19, 2021. Afghan delegation may also seek OIC help for get released its country’s $ 10 billion siezed by the United State (US) after Taliban takeover .
Pakistan is seriously worried about Afghan situation. It is providing much needed financial support to Afghanistan, but keeping in view magnitude of the crisis it calls upon the world community to come forward and help Afghanistan in these difficult times. Other than OIC countries, special invitees including US, UK, European countries and international financial institutions will also attend OIC session.
Afghanistan urgently needs financial help to provide shelter to its people, besides providing them food. Many international institutions like the World Food Programme have been issuing warning that any delay in providing financial help can result in worse human catastrophic situation in Afghanistan.
