LAHORE; The Punjab is going to have local body elections on May 15, 2022.
Although, the date of local body elections have been made public, but the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is yet to come -up with a clear statement on the method to be used for these elections.
The Pakistan Tehreek -e – Insaf (PTI) is promoting the use of electronic voting machine (EVM), but ECP is apprehesive of its use and availability for upcoming local body elections in Punjab.
According to some media reports, prime minister, Imran Khan , who is also ruling party chairman, has sought report of PTI possible candidates for mayors from the Punjab PTI chief, Chaudhary Ejaz . After losing in Khyber Pukhtunkhaw (KPK),
the local body elections of Punjab are very crucial for PTI. It would determine the fate of ruling party for next general elections scheduled in 2023.
