ISLAMABAD: Prime minister’s advisor on Interior and Accountability , Shahzad Akbar , on Monday announced his resignation through a tweet.
His tweet, however, did not gave any reason behind Mr Shahzad Akbar’s unexpected and sudden resignation from an important position.
Mr Akbar had joined Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) government in August 2018. He was given assignment of accountability, the most important task of PTI government, as Imran Khan’s entire politics hang on one basic slogan of accountability.
Shahzad Akbar had played a very important role in collecting evidence against Nawaz Sharif and other members of Sharif family in Pananma Papers scam and led the government legal teams to get Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz and Captain Safdar awarded terms from the court. He also defended Imran Khan and his government in media whenever the opposition tried to haunt it. Mr Akbar also was heading the asset recovery unit established by PTI government for recovery of looted money in Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) and Pakistan People Party (PPP) regimes. Shahzad Akbar’s resignation has come as a big surprise for many in Pakistan. Information minister,
Fawad Hussain Chaudhary , told the media persons at a press conference in the evening that Shahzad Akbar’s resignation would not affect the accountability process of the PTI government. He added that even more important job awaits Mr Akbar.
The minister also claimed that Shahzad Akbar who has done wonderful job as advisor on Interior and Accountability under huge pressure would continue to serve as a member of the PTI.
