ISLAMABAD ; The military establishment has demanded to de- classify minutes of the national security committee (NSC) meeting held after eruption of controversy over ‘foreign conspiracy’ in the form of a letter that former prime minister, Imran Khan, had claimed a prove of an international conspiracy to topple his government .
According to some media reports, the military establishment has also demanded to de-seal the input of the intelligence agencies given in the meeting in question .
The Inter Services Public Relations ( ISPR) has already distanced itself from then government on the lettergate . Its director general , Babar Iftilhar , had told a press briefing in recent past that the military establishment did not agree with the Imran Khan government on the word conspiracy in the cable .
ISPR director general had also told the questioner that the military leadership had suggested to then government to issue a strong demarche to the United States for using harsh language by its official about Pakistan in his meeting with Asad Majeed, Pakistan’s ambassador to US. The military establishment also wants to de classify the original cable sent to the foreign office by Asad Majeed.
De- classification of the minutes of NSC which discussed lettergate could give the nation a true picture of the case . It’s also important as the nation ought to know who was who in the lettergate issue.
The lettergate controversy is over shadowing Pakistan’s politics for the last almost one month .The Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) is using this issue to create an impression among the masses that their beloved government was overthrown with the support of US . PTI top leadership basically tried to misguide the masses over this issue. Initially, PTI government claimed that it has received a threatening letter from US that was tantamount to undermining Pakistan’s independence . It tried to mix the cable sent by Pakistan’s ambassador to US with the alleged US letter written to depose then prime minister Imran Khan.
US had repeatedly clarified that it never sent any such letter to Pakistan. Despite repeated denial of US authorities , then prime minister, Imran Khan, kept on publically claiming that US administration used its influence to dethrown Imran Khan government.
.Imran Khan kept on pushing its anti US narrative without taking into account its damage to Pakistan . It established a factor that no one will trust Pakistani ambassadors. It also has dented Pakistan , US relations to a great level.
Now if a commission is constituted it would resolve the controversy over the lettergate .
