Police Service Of Pakistan produced many brilliant officers whom I knew as a person such as Dr. Shuaib Suddle or known to us as a family such as the controversial Masood Mehmood as head of the Bhutto raised Federal Security Force and others equally brave and brilliant but not known to us in our personal capacity.
Nevertheless, few I found as passionate to the police history as Honourable Saud Mirza, the former IG Sindh and DG Federal Investigation Agency whom I never met in person, but had the honour of knowing his Honourable father ” Agha Jee”, through a common family friend Capt. Salim Fida of the famed GM Fur Industry .
I was not only impressed rather inspired by the passion of this Pakistani Civil Servant who founded the 1st ever museum inside the old police barracks in Garden East, Karachi Sindh, exclusively dedicated to the history of Pakistani Police, tracing its pre-partition linkages and earning it the distinction of being one of the oldest police services in the world.
His recent paper read at the Former Inspector General of Police Conference held in Islamabad regarding Sharif Khan, the senior most police service officer of Pakistan, who opted for Pakistan post – partition and took over from the British as its 1st indigenous Inspector General of Police.
To quote an excerpt from his paper that says “Shariff Khan main forte was his integrity. In this regard, I would like to briefly quote the contents of one of his confidential letters, wherein he voluntarily divulged to the authorities the family background of his wife who happened to be daughter of Sir Suleman Cassim known to be business tycoon in erstwhile united India. In the instant letter, Shariff Khan disclosed the very nature of business of his own family and his wife’s closest relatives. He reiterated that his position in Police did not in any way promoted or supported their business interests. This very act of voluntary disclosure on part of Shariff Khan speaks amply of his moral uprightness specially when seen in the present day scenario/ perspective.”
This gentleman former police officer’s hawk eyed approach judging both the country’s past, present and future hitting the bull with his single bullet of” Integrity”, the master stroke capable to restore order not only to our house but everyday lives, marred by absolute mess of dishonesty both to ourselves and the society that result into our downfall faster then the stones rolling downhill.
