ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) former senior vice president and general secretary Anjuman e Tajran, Chaudhary Khalid, on Tuesday said the traders community from across Pakistan will stage a historic protest on November 30, 2021 outside Prime Minister Secretariat to denounce the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) policy of including small traders/ shopkeepers in Sales Tax regime.
The traders community is again up in the arms against FBR decision to make registration of small businesses under Sales Tax regime mandatory. The traders have very valid reason to resist FBR plan of making small business liable to registration under Sales Tax regime. A shopkeeper with a few thousand sale per day can not afford to hire a Chartered Accountant to prepare Sales Tax Return after every month and submit to FBR. The traders also repel installation of sale point devices at small businesses. They have reservations on sale point devices use. The FBR started to work on its sale point device project without taking the traders community into confidence..
Anjuman e Tajran is protesting against FBR on these controversial issues. In October last, It staged a protest outside FBR headquarters in Islamabad and then with a gap of around one month it held another round of protest at Faizabad , a point known after Tehreek e Labaik sit in that led to government action against this hardliner religious outfit.
The first two rounds of protest had not yielded any positive outcome and subsequently Anjuman e Tajran decided to lauch third phase of protest against FBR outside the Prime Minister Secretariat on November 30, 2021.
“We will not let FBR destroy businesses of this country”, Chaudhary Khalid said in his statement released to media here.
