ISLAMABAD: Businessmen Panel (BMP) , a group headed by Pakistan’s leading industrialist Mr Anjum Nisar, is set to sweep in Federation of Pakistan Chambers and Industry (FPCCI) elections 2022 as majority of the members of this august body of traders and industrialists of Pakistan has extended full support to its candidates.
BMP has been winning FPCCI elections since 2019. In the last year elections, BMP won vast majority of the House. Last year In a House of 360, BMP candidate, Nasser Hayatt Maggo, had secured 182 votes against Khalid Tawab of United Business Group (UBG). BMP candidate for senior vice president even won with bigger margin in the last elections. NEWSMAN cinducted background interviews of FPCCI members that suggested BMP was getting overwhelming response during the on-going campaign for 2022 contest. Majority of the FPCCI members have already extended assurance to BMP leadership to vote for its candidates which suggests winning of this group in FPCCI election 2022 scheduled for December 30, 2021.
BMP and UBG are two arch rivals for FPCCI politics. UBG had been in office for years. Its candidates used to win FPCCI elections with reasonable margin, but its leadership failed to serve the traders and industrialists of the country. Rather, UBG leadership was more interested in getting favour from the government for their individual business houses rather than fighting the case of overall Pakistani business community.
For FPCCI election 2022, BMP has an edge over UBG for two reasons. One, its leadership, particularly, Anjum Nisar, had pleaded the case of Pakistan’s business community forcefully at every forum as president FPCCI. He took every important case of the business community with the policy makers and managed to get relief for businesses to help gain a good impression in and outside Pakistan. Second, unlike UBG, BMP selects its candidates for FPCCI elections on purely merit and performance basis.
Keeping to its history of selecting its panel for FPCCI elections on pick and choose basis. UBG picked- up those candidates for the FPCCI elections 2022 who had lost in the past elections.
Dr Noman Idress Butt, UBG’s candidate for the FPCCI president, had lost his election in 2020. Shaikh Irfan Iqbal of Al Fateh Group, other than these advantages ,BMP candidate for the FPCCI president, enjoys good repute among the business community of Pakistan.
Speaking to NEWSMAN on campaign of his group, Anjum Nisar claimed that BMP was going to clean sweep in FPCCI election 2022. “Let me tell you UBG has already lost the elections as majority of FPCCI members have openly announced their support for our group”, Anjum Nisar asserted.
