ISLAMABAD. The Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) government is going to replace Drug Regulatory Authority (DRAP) with Therapeutic Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (TRAP) soon.
A draft of TRAP has been finalise and circulated among the concerned departments of the federal government.

The purpose of introducing an act to be called TRAP Act 2021 is nothing, but to increase controlling power of the federal government on registration of drugs and fixing their prices. The drafted Act said : The federal minister for Health Services and the Chairman Planning Division will be the members of the committee to be established under TRAP Act 2021. The prime minister will constitute TRAP search and pricing committee.
Inclusion of the federal minister Health Services in the search and pricing of committee makes some sense as he/ she comes from medical background, but what would be utilisation of the Chairman Planning Division for this highly techincal committee. The second purpose of bringing in TRAP Act seems registration of food supplements, herbal and homeopathic medicines into the category of drugs and register them under the new Act.
Replacement of DRAP with TRAP is a deep- rooted conspiracy. Its an excercise identical to replacing Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) with Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC ) in PTI rule. Today the same PMC has made the future of one young generation bleak by conducting supersonic MDCAT 2021. Similarly, TRAP is going to trap the masses as the real planning enfolded in regisration of homeopathic and herbal drugs seems to de-price allopathic drugs and benefit drug mafia at the cost of health rather lives of the people of Pakistan.
During Imran Khan’s rule each sector is in clutches of powerful mafias, but the way Drug mafia has plundered the people of Pakistan by getting desired increase in the life saving medicines is matchless and unbelieveable.
After coming in of proposed TRAP, the drug mafia will be free to sell drugs at its own price and make the lives of the people of Pakistan worse in coming times.
Noor Mahar, president Pharacists Lawyers Forum , strongly condemned the PTI government’s move of replacing DRAP with TRAP.
Speaking to NEWSMAN from Lahore by phone on Sunday, Noor Mahar said ” TRAP is an idea of mafia having access to power corridors in Islamabad and its introduction will benefit the same mafia that got imcrease up to 400% in drug prices in PTI rule”.
He demanded of prime minister, Imran Khan, to take notice of those elements who were pampering drug mafia in his government.
