LAHORE : The Punjab assembly on Saturday elected, Hamza Shahbaz, its 21st chief minister of Punjab after a day long scuffle inside the assembly. The new elected chief minister got 197 votes.
In his maiden address as chief executive , Hamza Shahbaz narrated his tale of struggle spanning over 29 years. He said Punjab was making fast progress under commendable leadership of his father and then an incompetent regime of Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI,) was imposed on this largest province of Pakistan. He vowed to re- continue the journey of progress and property in the province .
Deputy speaker , Dost Mohammad Mazari, called the holding of election for the chief minister Punjab a win of democracy.
Earlier , the Punjab assembly turned into a battle field here when the Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan.Muslim League (PMLQ) members attacked deputy speaker , Dost Mohammad Mazari ahead of voting for the election of the chief executive of the province.
On very outset of the session to elect the new chief minister Punjab, the PTI and PMLQ members assembly physically attacked deputy speaker , Dost Mohammad Mazari. Deputy speaker had summoned the session of the Punjab assembly on the directive of the Lahore High Court (LHC).
The LHC had issued direction to all the stakeholders of Punjab assembly to ensure smooth and peaceful process for election of the chief minister Punjab.
The physical attack of dozens of PTI and PMLQ members resulted in ugly scenes inside the assembly. The charged members of PTI and PMLQ were seen physically torturing the deputy speaker . Some members including women of PTI and PMLQ threw ” lotas’ on the deputy speaker. The staff of the assembly made its best effort to protect the deputy speaker, but since the attacking members assembly were in a large number a few staff assembly could not succeed in bringing the deputy speaker out safely from the assembly hall. During this unfortunate episode , Chaudhary Pervez Elahi kept on inciting charged members of PTI and PMLQ to keep beating the deputy speaker . During all these ugly scenes, Pervez Elahi kept on showing V sign to attacking members assembly
Finally, deputy speaker sought police help to save him from further physical attacks.
After sometimes , the police riot force entered into the assembly building to protect the deputy speaker from the furious ruling party members. On entry of police , Chaudhary Pervez Elahi threatened the Inspector general police (IGP) of awarding him punishment for making his police force entry in the provincial assembly building
The ruling members also beat the police personnel inside the building of the assembly. The police finally managed to control the situation .
