ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Thursday issued notices to the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) president, Arif Usmani, and other respondents in fresh appointments case.
The IHC division bench, comprising chief justice Athar Minallah, and Justice Amir Farooq, heard the case on Thursday and issued notices to all respondents including NBP president Arif Usmani, in the case.
Dr G M Chaudhary advocate for the petitioner, Abdul Latif Qureshi, chief organizer NBP staff union, argued before the court that since the appointment of NBP president, Arif Usmani, has been declared illegal by the court, he may be restrained from making massive fresh hiring in the NBP. DR GM Chaudhary that NBP president was making massive hiring to stuff his favouritees and croonies against heavy salaries and perks and privileges. He argued that appointments of favouritees and croonies on top positions of NBP was going to have devastating impact on NBP, hence Arif Usmani, who lacks moral and legal ground to do new hiring may be restrained from fresh hiring for NBP.
The court heard the arguments of counsel for the petitioner and ordered to issue notices to all the respondents including NBP president. The next date for hearing into the case has been fixed for October 4, 2021.
Challenging new hiring in NBP, the petitioner claimed that intera court appeal (ICA) was pending before the court and no next date was fixed so far. Meanwhile, the respondent no 7 (AR if Usmani)in the case was making huge hiring NBP.
The petition also claimed that respondent 7 (NBP president Arif Usmani) has not only lowered the educational qualifications for different posts in NBP for appointing favorites in NBP against heavy salaries.
The petitioner prayed that on the basis of the above stated facts the court may orders NBP president in restraining the NBP president from making fresh hiring and issuing advertisements in the newspapers for fresh hiring for NBP.
NBP is facing serious managerial issues. Incompetence of NBP top management is causing huge financial loss to NBP, besides eroding its credibility.
