NAP’s Apex Committee Approves Military Operation in Balochistan

Islamabad, (Newsman): The Apex Committee of the National Action Plan (NAP) Tuesday approved a comprehensive military operation against terrorist organisations in Balochistan province.

Chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the committee—which includes senior civil and military leadership—reviewed the deteriorating security situation in Balochistan, where violence has sharply increased.

The meeting, attended by Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir, intelligence and police chiefs, provincial chief ministers, and key federal ministers, focused on addressing groups such as the Majeed Brigade, the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), the Baloch Liberation Front (BLF), and BRAS.

These organizations have been responsible for attacks on civilians and foreign nationals, and are believed to be working to destabilize Pakistan’s economic progress through violence, often at the behest of hostile external forces.

A statement from the Prime Minister’s Office emphasized that the meeting’s primary objective was to reassess Pakistan’s counter-terrorism strategy in light of escalating security threats. The committee received an in-depth briefing on the evolving security challenges, which include terrorism, sub-nationalism, and religious extremism.

The meeting also addressed the growing concerns about the links between crime and terrorism, the presence of illegal networks, and the use of disinformation to weaken national unity.

A major focus of the discussions was the need for political cohesion and a unified national narrative to effectively combat these diverse threats.

The participants stressed the importance of cross-party support and national consensus in revitalizing the country’s counter-terrorism efforts, aligning with the principles of Vision Azm-e-Istehkam (Vision of Stability and Determination).

Among the key decisions made during the meeting was the revitalization of the National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) and the establishment of National and Provincial Intelligence Fusion and Threat Assessment Centres.

These centers will serve as crucial hubs for sharing intelligence and coordinating efforts between federal and provincial governments, ensuring a more integrated approach to tackling terrorism and other security challenges.

Additionally, the creation of district coordination committees under the Provincial Apex Committees was approved. These committees will facilitate the effective implementation of federal and provincial directives at the local level.

At the meeting’s conclusion, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called on all stakeholders to prioritize and execute the outlined initiatives efficiently. He stressed that sustained and coordinated efforts were vital to preserving Pakistan’s sovereignty, protecting its citizens, and ensuring economic and social stability.

General Asim Munir reiterated the Pakistan Army’s full commitment to eliminating threats to national security, underscoring the military’s support for government efforts to restore peace and stability, particularly in Balochistan.

The meeting highlighted the need for a comprehensive approach to countering terrorism, combining diplomatic, political, intelligence, socio-economic, and military measures to address both internal and external security threats with a clear and unified strategy.
