PANAH demands more taxes to discourage use of cigarette

RAWALPINDI: Sana Ullah Ghumman, General Secretary, Pakistan National Heart Association (PANAH) has said children and the young generation are priority of the country.

Tobacco use is a serious problem in 60% of the country’s adolescents. Smoking is a major cause of infectious diseases, including heart and cancer. To get rid of this, the government needs to impose Taxes,As a result, not only will the country’s revenue increase,In fact, the proceeds will be used for development purposes, including diseases.

Speaking at a meeting on various deadly diseases including heart disease, General Secretary (PANAH) Sana Ullah Ghumman said It is time to take important steps to save the health of the young generation.
According to a report of the Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI) issued on January 9, 2021, the annual consumption of cigarettes in Pakistan is 86.6 billion.Cigarettes are usually blamed for entering the market illegally, while the volume of illicit trade does not exceed 9%, which is far less than the 41% reported by companies.
22 million people use tobacco in Pakistan,60% of them are teenagers.According to the Pakistan Medical Association, 1.5 million cases of oral cancer are being Sana Ullah Ghumman said the growing use of tobacco is being ignored, the use of tobacco is gradually increasing in various types of cancers including heart and other deadly diseases.

He added more taxes should be imposed on cigarette to discourage its use to reduce the harmful effects of smoking.This will increase the revenue, which will help in solving other public problems including health. The development of the country is the prosperity of the people.
