ISLAMABAD: Governor Khyber Pukhtunkhaw (KPk) , Shah Farman, has voiced in favour of presidential form of government to run the country more effectively in the future.
In a statement issued to the media on Sunday, Shah Farman said the existing parliamentary system of governance has failed to deliver to the requirements to run the country as per wishes of the people of Pakistan. The Governor said he did not talk to president, Dr Arif Alvi, and prime minister, Imran Khan, on the subject under discussion. He, however, gave many examples to prove his point that the presidential form of government was a better option to expedite Pakistan’s pace of progress
He said the mafias proved themselves more powerful than the state in parliamentary form of government and it was a dangerous trend. Shah Farman further argued that the countries which have presidential form of government were making faster progress than those who like Pakistan were tangled in ineffective and poor parliamentary form of government. He claimed that no one could stopp presidential form of government to be effective if it gets support from the people of Pakistan.
The KPK Governor,’s statement favouring presidential governance system over the existing parliamentary system of governance is going to make the already ongoing debate on presidential form of government in Pakistan more open. It also cleared ambiguity to some extent as to who was behind the recent debate on the change of governance system in Pakistan .
The debate on presidential form of governance is not new to Pakistan . It starts time to time and then ends- up without achieving any considerable support from the key stakeholders, particularly, the political parties . This time the debate on the presidential form of government seems a serious business. Its movers want to make the on- going debate on presidential form of government not only result oriented, but also the last attempt to bring in the new system of government in Pakistan.
Pakistan’s society as a whole is divided over the change of system. Those who think presidential form of governance is better system for Pakistan have every strong arguments in it’s favour and simultaneously its opponents also give equally strong arguments in its opposition.
Both segments of the society are hard on their positions and do not apparently seem flexible to digest arguments of the opponent section of the society..
