Islamabad : Feb 15, 2024: Tehreek- e – Insaf (PTI) has nominated secretary general ,Omar Ayub Khan, for prime minister slot. Sources said Ali Muhammad Khan and Omar Ayub Khan both diehard supporters of PTI and close political aides to party founding chairman, Imran Khan, were potential candidates for nomination for prime minister and after days long deliberations , party top leadership decided in favour of Omar Ayub Khan.
Omar Ayub Khan has a sound family background . He is a grand son of field martial and president , Ayub Khan and son of ex-speaker national assembly , Gohar Ayub Khan . Omar Ayub Khan had won on the national assembly seat from NA-11 Haripur in general election 2024 . PTI led independents have 92 seats in the national assembly. Although this number is not good enough to win the contest of the prime minister, but PTI is hoping to get the golden number of 169 to form a government in the centre with simple majority.
Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) has already announced Shahbaz Sharif as its candidate for the prime minister . Pakistan People Party (PPP) has also announced to support PMLN candidate for the prime minister . Numerical numbers show PMLN and PPP have enough numbers to get its joint candidate won as prime minister . PPP has 54 seats in the national assembly where as PMLN is in the lead with 79 seats in the lower house of the parliament . After getting reserved seats the number game will turn in favour of PMLN and PPP which apparently is in a comfortable position to win the contest for the prime minister .
