ISLAMABAD : Dec 31,2022; The local body elections have become a cause of new controversy among political forces, besides exposing the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to even worse verbal attacks.
The Islamabad High Court (IHC ) had ordered to the Election Commission of Pakistan on December 30 last in a case filed by the Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) and Jamiaat Islami to hold local body elections in Islamabad on December 31. The ECP instead implementing the court decision went other way around . It has filed an intera court appeal to seek some reasonable time for holding local body elections in Islamabad .
For not honouring the court order , PTI has open- up a new front against Chief Election Commissioner ,
Sultan Sikander Raja, and announced to file a reference against him with a request to the court to bar him from acting as Chief Election Commissioner .
PTI senior leader , Fawad Husain Chaudhary , told mediapersons that by not honouring the court orders to hold local body elections in Islamabad , CEC has committed contempt of court and on the same ground PTI is filing a reference against CEC for barring him to perform as CEC.
