MQM-P boycotts second phase of LB elections in Sindh

KARACHI : Jan 15,2023: Just a few hours before start of the polling, Mutihida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) has announced to boycott the local body elections scheduled for Karachi , Hyderabad and four other districts of Sindh for January 15 (today).

An announcement not to become a part of the second phase of local body elections being held today was made by MQM-P top leadership at Bahadarabad in Karachi.

MQM-P top leader ,Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, who was accompanied by other senior party leaders including , Farooq Sattar, Amir Khan, Mustafa Kamal, Waseem Ahmad , Faisal Soharwardy and others made the announcement to boycott the local body elections being held in Sindh today.

Addressing a hurriedly called press conference on wee hours of Sunday at Bahadarabad here, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said MQM-P will not accept the result of local body elections being held in Karachi , Hyderabad and four other districts of Sindh. He said the Election Commission which is responsible to put in place fair and unbiased constituencies has failed in performing its duty in this regard and MQM-P announces boycott of Sunday’s local body elections . He said MQM-P tried to get its right of lawful constituencies for local body elections in Karachi and Hyderabad, but it was denied this right and hence it decided to boycott these elections .
MQM-P , however , clarified that it will remain a part of the federal government despite staying away from today’s local body elections in Sindh.
