Karachi: Following harsh criticism on the party top leadership on the floor of the Sindh assembly, Firdous Shamim Naqvi, has lost his position as the member of Sindh assembly. He was conveyed by the provincial party leadership on behalf of prime minister, Imran Khan, to resign as MPA.
Firdous Shamim Naqvi confirmed his resignation as MPA in his video message released by him on Wednesday. He said “I had resigned as MPA soon after tendering apology to the top party leadership on my inappropriate use of words on the floor of the Sindh assembly”.
With resignation as MPA, Naqvi has ultimately lost his position as opposition leader in the Sindh assembly.
Sources in PTI told NEWSMAN that Haleem Adil Shaikhi is likely to be Shamim Naqvi’s replacement as opposition leader in the provincial assembly.
According to the sources, Naqvi was conveyed Imran Khan’s annoyance over his objectionable remarks in the Sindh assembly and asked to resign from his seat forthwith. His resignation may follow striping off from the party membership in due course of time and after completing the legal formalities.
Firdous Shahmim Naqvi, who had won the seat of Sindh assembly from PS-101 in 2018 elections, was appointed as the opposition leader in the provincial assembly in September 2018.
He had lost his posture while expressing his anger on the crisis-like situation in Karachi, in particular, over prevailing gas crisis. Naqvi had bashed his party top leadership calling the issue of Karachi gas crisis very serious. He selection of words was not easy to digest for PTI top leadership.
His remarks, which cost him the seat of the provincial assembly as well as the position of leader of opposition, were “Kuch shurm hoti hai, kuch haya hoti hai”.
These words have always been used by worse critic and top PMLN leader, Khawaja Asif, in the national assembly many times during the last couple of years to chide Imran Khan on various political issues.
Now repetition of the same in the Sindh assembly by his own party leader made big ripple among PTI ranks and it were also noted by the top leadership on whose direction Naqvi lost his political magnet in and out of the party.
