Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan Stresses to Strengthen Economic Ties  

 

ISLAMABAD, October 16, 2024: Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Cheema welcomed Mr. Daniiar Amangeldiev, Minister of Finance of the Kyrgyz Republic, and his delegation for a significant bilateral meeting aimed at enhancing economic cooperation between the two countries.

The meeting underscored the enduring friendship between Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan, with Minister Cheema expressing appreciation for the Kyrgyz delegation’s participation in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit.

Both sides acknowledged the potential for increasing trade, which currently stands at USD 8.63 million. Pakistan exports to Kyrgyzstan at USD 3.33 million and imports at USD 5.3 million for the 2022-23 period, he said.

Cheema highlighted the positive outcomes of the 4th Session of the Pak-Kyrgyz Inter-Governmental Commission (IGC) held in November 2023 and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to implementing the agreements reached during that session.

The discussions covered various sectors for mutual cooperation, including trade, agriculture, energy, mining, digital development, tourism, health, banking, and education.

The Minister stressed the importance of forming Joint Working Groups (JWGs) to foster collaboration in key areas such as agriculture and trade.

He expressed enthusiasm for hosting the upcoming 5th Session of the IGC in Islamabad, reiterating Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening ties through this mechanism.

The meeting also focused on finalizing the ‘Transit Trade Agreement’ and related Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) for cooperation in agriculture and trade.

This productive discussion marks a significant step forward in enhancing economic relations between Pakistan and the Kyrgyz Republic, reflecting a shared commitment to collaboration and mutual growth
