PESHAWAR – In a historic move, the KP Police has made the protection of women and children a top priority by establishing the Women and Children Protection Unit in Nowshera district.
This marks the first time in the history of the province’s police force that such a dedicated unit has been set up to ensure justice and support for the vulnerable members of society.
The initiative aims to provide easy access to justice, particularly for women who are often subjected to abuse, and children who face various forms of exploitation.
The newly established unit is equipped with modern facilities to address issues such as child abuse and harassment. The unit will offer legal counseling, psychological support, and other vital services for the victims.
Additionally, a police driving school has been set up to promote road safety and provide public driving lessons. The inauguration ceremony of the Women and Children Protection Unit and Police Driving School was held at the New DPO Complex in Nowshera.

The ceremony was attended by key dignitaries, including the Inspector General of Police, Akhtar Hayat Khan, who was the chief guest of the event.
The event also saw the participation of Regional Police Officer Najib Ur Rehman, Alamzeb Khan SP Investigation, and Madam Uzma Haleemi, the UN Program Coordinator for Gender Activities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The opening ceremony began with a warm welcome for the Inspector General, who was greeted by a police patrol team upon his arrival.
The special guest inaugurated both the Women and Children Protection Unit and the Police Driving School, marking a significant step in the welfare of Nowshera’s citizens. District Police Officer Muhammad Azhar Khan briefed the attendees on the objectives of the new units.
He highlighted that the Women and Children Protection Unit will provide comprehensive legal support, with a dedicated police team and modern equipment to address the needs of affected individuals.
Mobile police units will be available to transport victims to hospitals for immediate medical attention, and psychologists will offer counseling for distressed women.
Moreover, a daycare facility has been set up to cater to the needs of young children. In addition to the protection unit, the newly established driving school will provide modern driving training, including theoretical lessons and practical sessions with experienced instructors.
The driving school aims to reduce road accidents by educating the public about traffic laws and safe driving practices. Inspector General Akhtar Hayat Khan praised the efforts of District Police Officer Muhammad Azhar Khan for his initiative in establishing the unit.
He emphasized that this is a groundbreaking development for KP Police, and the unit will be expanded to other districts in the province to further protect women and children.
He also noted that the driving school would play a crucial role in improving road safety across the region.
Following the inauguration, the Inspector General of Police visited Badrashi Police Station, where he conducted a detailed inspection of the facility to ensure its readiness and effectiveness in serving the community.
This initiative is a crucial step forward in ensuring the protection of women and children in KP, and its establishment is a milestone in the province’s ongoing efforts to create a safer and more supportive environment for all citizens.
