Apex Committee Meeting on NAP Rescheduled for Tomorrow

ISLAMABAD, November 18, 2024: The crucial meeting of the Apex Committee for the National Action Plan (NAP), which was scheduled for Monday, has been rescheduled for today (Tuesday).

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who was set to chair the session, had to postpone the meeting due to other urgent commitments.

The session was originally convened to assess the progress of the NAP on Anti-Terrorism and was expected to bring together top civil and military leadership, federal ministers, and the chief ministers and chief secretaries of all four provinces.

The key focus of the meeting will be to review the security situation across the country, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, where terrorism-related incidents have been on the rise.

In addition to reviewing the implementation of NAP, the meeting will also address strengthening coordination between federal and provincial authorities and improving intelligence-sharing mechanisms.

The committee is expected to discuss ways to bolster internal security, with several key decisions on combating the increasing threat of terrorism likely to be made.

Briefings on recent intelligence-based operations and evaluations of the current counter-terrorism strategies will also be a central part of the agenda.

The National Action Plan, which was formulated in the aftermath of the 2014 Army Public School attack, remains a cornerstone of Pakistan’s counter-terrorism strategy, aimed at tackling extremism and enhancing national security.
