Islamabad : There is no long march of the jailed prime minister Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek- e -Insaf (PTI) on the federal capital as yet, but the commuters in Islamabad and Rawalpindi are facing hell -like situation due to road blockades with thousands of containers placed on each and every point from where main traffic of twin cities passes through. You do not know where and when some unexpected traffic blockade will make your journey miserable.
Most of traffic jams in Rawalpindi and Islamabad due to leaving of containers unattended right in the middle of the busy main roads of the twin cities are manless. There is no one at most of the points in twin cities to regulate traffic during busy hours and once traffic gets stuck it takes hours to clear for smooth flow of traffic.
Islamabad and Rawalpindi had literally turned into container cities last week when the administration of these twin cities decided to use novel technology of the containers to block roads to foil PTI long march originally scheduled for September 27 . PTI later put on hold its decision , but the administration of these twin cities did not remove containers from the roads.
A similar traffic blockade was scene by the commuters on Sunday evening at Feteh Jang road where traffic remained stuck for hours due to containers pegged on the road which is used by hundreds of thousands of the commuters of the twin cities and Khyber Pukhtunkhaw (KP).
One can not understand what science Islamabad administration is using by blocking half of main roads and turning 2-way main roads into a single road one like Fateh Jang to let the travelers face traffic jam for hours.
Mr Ali Mir, one of the travelers , who remained stuck at Fateh Jang on Sunday evening told this scribe that he and his family remained stuck in his car at Feteh Jang road on Sunday evening at around 6 45 pm for hours due to road blockade.
“What is this ? why busy road like Feteh Jang are half way blocked to turn the passengers lives into a hell. I ‘m stuck here in my car with family for many hours . This is pathetic and condemnable” Mr Ali Mir said.
This is not painful tale of Mr Ali Mir only . Thousands in Islamabad and Rawalpindi are passing through similar painful situation due to half closed roads with containers. The use of containers for road blockade is not only creating avoidable trouble for thousands of Pakistanis , but also bringing bad name for the country. Those who architected this new technology to block political long march are perhaps not worried about the pain being born by Pakistanis due to their container culture. They , of course, are not worried about loss being faced by the container owners as this ugly exercise is hurting thier businesses and so their livelihood.
